G'day! we are currently stationed in the very sunny (not) but amazing city of Edinburgh. We arrived here on the sixteenth and are leaving tomorrow. We also went to a town called Dundee for a couple days which is about two hours away to stay with Kirsten's very nice cousin Jaimie and her extremely cute three year old daughter Sairse. We had a pretty eventful bus ride from Edinburgh to Dundee as one of the wheels actually fell off of our bus as we were careening down the highway. It gave us a lot of faith in the Scottish bus system, I'll tell you what. But hey, at least no one's head got chopped off... Anyways, we are back in Edinburgh after two very relaxing days in Dundee. We went to St. Andrews across the bridge from Dundee and witnessed some truly amazing sights by the shoreline, and pathetically spent several hours watching Disney movies. Hey, three weeks of travelling gets tiring! We've had a fantastic time in Edinburgh too, our second day was spent on a FREE walking tour of the city where we got to learn about and see all the most interesting and pretty sights in Old Town, which also happens to be where our hostel is. Other fun fact, our hostel room is up five flights of stairs. We love it. Other than that, we've seen some traditional Scottish pubs, sampled the cuisine (Scottish breakfast is fabulous), heard some music, and generally poked around this super rad city. PS Edinburgh castle is epic.
Things we've learned:
1) Edinburgh is actually pronounced Edin-bra/edin-burra...question mark?
2) It's not a myth. They actually do drive on the wrong side of the street. It makes crossing terrifying.
3) Thirsty? Tired? Grumpy? DRINK AN IRN-BRU! you won't be for long. (PS they're illegal in canada... not sure why...)
4) Scottish accents are actually harder to understand than the German language as a whole. They do however sound a lot more jolly than the Germans.
5) you know how it's always sunny in philadelphia? well its NEVER sunny (or warm) in Scotland.
6) Scottish toilets are for shit (hahaha get it?)
Things we've seen:
1) Every one of our group members almost get hit by a car
2) A ferris wheel next to a castle
3) A hair straightener available for rent in a bar bathroom
4) THE OCEAN! not to mention sheep, round bales, rolling hills...
5) a bus with three wheels.
We will be up bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow morning to board our 24-hour bus ride to Amsterdam tomorrow! Yahoo! Love you all!
